Geek Family Feud [Apr. 25th, 2011|10:52 am]

timeshredder reminded me that I should let you all know that Geek Family Feud will also be happening at Penguicon!

Last held during Construct with much hilarity, Lucy and I are again doing it on stage, and you are invited! *ahem* We surveyed people during Confusion, let's see how geeky you really are!

We will be accepting up to 8 teams of 5, please sign up at Ops with your team. There will be fabulous (and horrible) prizes)! The event will happen Sunday, before closing ceremonies, so gather your friends and guess on what color underwear the Con chair is wearing!

(Okay, that is probably not a real question. He doesn't wear underwear.)

The sad thing is with 100 or so surveys filled out, the chances of Jer's Man Cream making it onto the boards (again) are slim!

Drag Show Info [Apr. 19th, 2011|12:52 am]

Have you ever wanted to know what it was like to be a “King” for a day? Or maybe a “Queen” for a night? Well your opportunity has arrived. Friday night at Penguicon there will be a Drag Show. So come on join us and get transformed. If you have any questions or need more information about the show please contact azrnich@gmail.com

This year we will be doing this as a charity raising event.  We are asking that the performers donate their tips they receive from the audience.  All money collected will given to Affirmations, a wonderful LGBT center in Ferndale, MI.  Also, donations of clothing will be accepted for use during the show.  Any clothing left over will be also donated to Affirmations. www.goaffirmations.org

Prior to the show there will also be a workshop starting at 8pm where there will people to help you get ready for the show.

These are a few things that you should have in preparation for the show:

1. 2 or 3 songs that you may want to perform. Please bring these on a CD and pre-edited to be within 3 to 5 minutes. (I suggest so many just in case someone else picks the same song as you or if we can you may get to perform twice.)

2. 1 or 2 outfits that you would feel comfortable enough to perform in. Accessories to help finish off your outfit. (We have been collecting donation clothes but the supply of those are limited.)

Below are some things that will be on hand but if you wanted to bring your own that would be greatly appreciated as well.

1. A hairstyle that will reflect your transformation. (Women something that will look masculine when done. Men a wig or a way to do your natural hair that will look feminine.)

2. A crème based foundation that matches your natural skin tone.

3. A powder that matches your natural skin tone.

4. A powder that is 2 to 3 shades darker than your natural skin tine.

5. A powder that is 2 to 3 shades lighter than your natural skin tone.

6. White eye shadow

7. Eyeliner (Men a color that will compliment your eye shadow choices and women a color that will compliment your hair as it can be used as facial hair)

8. A medium sized blush brush and a pressed powder puff.

Things that are specific for the woman to man transformation:

1. 2 Ace bandages of 4” width or greater. If you have a compression vest or something else that will help to bind down your breasts.

2. Crepe hair and spirit gum. There will be some of this available so if you can’t find it don’t fear.

Things that are specific for the man to woman transformation:

1. A dark eye shadow and a contrasting lighter colored eye shadow.

2. Lipstick

3. Breasts.

Please email azrnich@gmail.com if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Speaking of The Front, don't forget to RSVP for the MC Frontalot concert on Thursday the 28th, free for Penguicon attendees! RSVPs get in first, you see!

PS (relatedly) If you have any junk electronics or crap cabling you're looking to offload for something fun, please let me know.

BOOM! Frontalot, Thursday April 28th, FREE! [Apr. 1st, 2011|12:37 pm]

Our Guest of Honor, MC Frontalot, will be performing solely for Penguicon attendees on Thursday, April 28th! He goes on at 8pm, and you MUST register for Penguicon in order to listen to him on our Main Stage the night before the convention.

Please RSVP at the Penguicon.org web site for admission.

The video below the title song (video premiered yesterday!) from his album Zero Day. It co-stars other nerdcore artists ytcracker and int80 of Dual Core.

We will be collecting canned goods for Gleaners Community Food Bank, so please bring some to donate!

MC Frontalot first coined the phrase "nerdcore", and the decade since then has seen the genre of nerdcore hip-hop rapidly expanding in popularity. He has appeared at every Penny Arcade Expo from 2004 to 2010, and his songs "Penny Arcade Theme" and "Which MC Was That?" both appear in the dance video game In the Groove. His track 'Final Boss' featured over the end credits in the 2008 game Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness - Episode 1. His songs "Living At the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" and "Origin of Species" (a satire of Creation Science) are available as downloadable tracks for Rock Band.

His antics have been captured in Nerdcore Rising, a documentary/concert film starring Frontalot and various other nerdcore artists such as mc chris, Optimus Rhyme and MC Lars with a contribution from Weird Al Yankovic. The film premiered at the 2008 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and combines interviews about nerdcore and its origins, with footage of Frontalot's 2006 Nerdcore Rising national tour.

Frontalot was also interviews (as the reigning voice of nerdery) in the documentary The People vs. George Lucas, which premiered at the 2010 SxSW.

Christine, Head of Ops, is looking for Ops Staffers to work the booth during con.

The shifts are four hours each and you need to work two of them to be able to register at the staff rate.
