The convention chair John Guest introduces science guest Christine Peterson, software guest Bruce Schneier, webcomics guest Randy Milholland, author guests Charlie Stross and Elizabeth Bear, and gaming guest Steve Jackson. Alas, the main limiting factor in the sound quality is actually the microphone. I did buy a decent full-sized microphone that plugs into the recorders, but they don't put out enough amperage to power them properly.

You can plug a microphone into wall current, but I didn't know if there would be any. Plus the recorders could be taped down fairly nonintrusively, but the microphone would need a stand and some setup. (Electrically it sort of works, but the battery drains _really_ fast and sometimes they spontaneously switched off).

Plus a good microphone cost about as much as each recorder, so I could only afford one to experiment with. (I still have the one I got somewhere around here...)

Also the little recorders have a directional mike and it was set up to point _towards_ the table, meaning for opening ceremonies most of the people were standing _behind_ it. Sigh...
